Tariff Creation Walkthrough

Parent Previous Next

The following is an example of creating a common tariff.  Example tariffs are installed with the software.  Should you need specific help please contact support (see Getting help).

Step 1

Please click New Tariff

Step 2

Now click Plus (+) button under "Group" three times

Your screen should then look similar to the one below.

Step 3

Now click Group 1, then click inside the Item Name field.  Change the text from "Group 1" to "Fixed Charges".

Repeat this procedure by clicking on Group 2, renaming it to "Unit Prices".

Repeat again with Group 3, renaming it to "Use Of System".

Step 4

Your screen should now look like this :-

Select the group you named "Fixed Charges" (by single clicking on it).

Step 5

Select the item named “Fixed 1” and change the item name to “Standing Charge”.

Select the item named “Supply 1” rename it to “Supply Availability Charge”.

Go to the Supply Capacity Charge (per kVA) value box and enter your declared supply capacity.

Tick the radio button titled “Month” to indicate a monthly charge.

Select the item you named “Standing Charge” screen and enter the applicable value under Fixed Charge.

You should select the billing frequency for your standing charge using the Charge Per radio buttons.

Step 6

Your tariff should now look something like this ...

Select the group you named "Unit Charges" (by single clicking on it).

Step 7

Select "Night Units" and define the Times (24h) range as 00:00 to 07:00 and Price per Unit as 1.9 pence.

Your "Night Units" should then appear as above.

Step 8

Select "Day Units" and define the Times (24h) range as 07:00 to 00:00 and Price per Unit as 6.5 pence.

Your "Day Units" should then appear as above.

If you require different prices for summer and winter or weekdays and weekends simply add more unit prices and name them accordingly. Then for each unit price item tick the boxes that apply to that price for Month, Days and Times.

Step 9

Under the “Use Of System” repeat the above procedure, adding two unit price items.

Name these "UOS Night Units" and "UOS Day Units".

Use lower unit prices, which are typically associated with "Use Of System" charges in the UK.

For "UOS Night Units" use time range 23:30 to 6:30 and a unit price of 0.0087.

For "UOS Day Units" use time range 6:30 to 23:30 and a unit price of 0.0123.

In the UK we also have Climate Change Levy charges and Value Added Tax.

You can add these as follows ...

Step 10 (Climate Change Levy)

Use the Add New Item menu to add a new unit price to the "Use Of System" group.

Rename this to "Climate Change Levy".

Use the time range 00:00 to 00:00 (which indicates all times) and select all for months and weekdays.

This will total all the units used 24 hours a day and 7 days a week for the billing period selected, even if you have already allocated these time periods to another unit price.

Enter the price for your levy charge as appropriate - we have used 0.43 pence per unit.

When you have finished the definition should look like the picture above.

NOTE

You can use the units calculated in this section to check you have included all the appropriate units for this tariff. Adding up all the units included in each separate time band should equal the units included in this section. A useful check.

Step 11 (Value Added Tax)

Use the Add New Item menu to add a new “Percentage Charge” to "Use Of System" and complete the definition as above to apply VAT to the complete group of charges in the Tariff.

Explanation of Buttons

The three buttons always visible at the bottom of the "Edit Items" form are explained below.

You will be reminded to save your tariff if you press this button, which exits the tariff definition screens.
